Pappalecco, first established in 2007, is the perfect stop if you’re craving anything from gelato to coffee drinks to regional dishes.

Italy, often known as Bel Paese (The Beautiful Country), is in our thoughts (and hearts) at all times.  Its magnificence, culture, and history, as well as fashion and design, are an inspiration to Pappalecco.  Its diversity has given rise to one of the most open and pleasant societies — a role model and standard for their service.

Francesco and Lorenzo Bucci, of Pisa, Italy, one day decided to emigrate to San Diego to share their culture and family’s gelato recipe with the city.  Today, Pappalecco has three locations that offer more than just coffee and gelato: a diverse menu including Tuscan cuisine at their newest Kensington location.

The Crack Shack

Address: 2266 Kettner Blvd, San Diego, CA 92101

The Crack Shack is a passion project for Michael Rosen, who began it to transform the pristine local ingredients from his fine-dining restaurant into a more accessible, casual environment.

The Crack Shack, a Southern California fried chicken sandwich chain, is at the forefront of the fad by using “SoCal Style” fried chicken and an undisclosed “Crack Spice” blend from Le Sanctuare.  This is not your typical restaurant — nor is this any particular chicken — because, as they would claim, “there are no shortcuts when you give a cluck.”

The chicken served every day is always free-range, Jidori-sourced bone-in.  This implies the meat in this dish is more delicious than typical commercial chicken and may appear underdone in places.  This is due to the fact that, unlike many big-scale chicken producers, Jidori does not use colorants or additives in their feed to make their flesh seem brighter yellow and golden.
